Out with the old

Demolition on the former 24-apartment Homestead Assisted Living Home and two wings on the nursing home on Water Street began Monday after it was replaced with new 36-apartment Creekside Assisted Living next door to meet the growing needs of the elderly population. Dan Meyer, CEO of Morrow Home Community, said Homestead was beyond repair and it would have cost more than the building was worth to be able to keep up with changing building codes. The new nursing home portion of the building also added 15 more private rehabilitation rooms for short-term stays. Once the demolition is complete, in about a month, a new dry goods storage room for the dietary department and a new canopy for the nursing home entrance will be built. “We are excited about the curb appeal on Water Street, and the new home will be more inviting and easily accessible for visitors to the nursing home,” Meyer said.
