Nancy L. Volenec, 91, of Holmen and formerly of Sparta, died Monday, December 9, 2024 at Bluffview Memory Care in Holmen. Nancy was born in Chicago on March 10th, 1933 to James and Pauline (nee Curda) Baumrucker. In 1954 she met John Volenec while he was on leave from the Army, and they married in 1956. The couple moved to Streamwood, IL where they raised 3 sons. In 1972, they moved to Mount Sterling, Wisconsin. In 1983 they moved to Sparta. Both John and Nancy became CNA’s and worked at Rolling Hills Nursing Home for over 20 years.
Nancy was a kind, big-hearted person with a warm infectious smile. She was always going out of her way to make sure others were happy and cared for. She had a strong faith in God and loved reading about theology.
When dementia set in, she moved to Bluffview Memory Care in Holmen. She was very happy sharing stories over that first cup of coffee, doing crafts, having spa days, listening to music, doing seek-a-words, watching westerns and talking about Chicago and growing up Bohemian. The staff at Bluffview became her extended family and she loved every one of them.
Nancy is survived by her 3 sons, David of Sparta, Scott (Susan) of Onalaska, and John of Sparta. Her 3 grandchildren, Samantha (Kyle) of Menomonee Falls, Andrew (Hannah) of Eau Claire, and Lucas of Onalaska. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John.
The family would like to thank Bluffview Memory Care, St Croix Hospice Staff and Monsignor Kachel.
