MCHD reports 200 new cases of COVID this week

The Monroe County Health Department (MCHD) reported 200 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 this week as well as four new hospitalizations. 

According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), Monroe County has had a total of 7,556 confirmed and probable positive cases, La Crosse County has had 19,731 and the State of Wisconsin has had a total of 986,229 confirmed and probable positive cases of COVID as of Wednesday.  

As of Dec. 1, Wisconsin has had 9,052 confirmed COVID-related deaths and 996 probable deaths. La Crosse County has had a total of 123 confirmed COVID-related deaths and two probable while Monroe County has had a total of 55 confirmed COVID-related deaths and three probable.  

New cases are down from last week, however, the transmission level in Monroe County remains high. The MCHD continues to recommend that all individuals age 2 and over in areas of high transmission, regardless of vaccination status, continue to wear a mask when in indoor public spaces, at indoor gatherings and crowded outdoor gatherings.

Health officials are also advising that individuals maintain a six-foot distance from others, wash hands frequently, stay home if feeling sick, get tested if experiencing any COVID symptoms and get vaccinated if able. 

The State of Wisconsin has administered a total of 7,697,130 doses of vaccine; 304,903 doses of Johnson & Johnson, 2,988,024 doses of Moderna and 4,404,203 doses of Pfizer.  

A total of 1,036,814 booster doses have been administered throughout Wisconsin; 11,625 doses of Johnson & Johnson, 607,648 doses of Pfizer and 417,541 doses of Moderna.

In Monroe County, there have been 41,818 doses of vaccine administered; 22,196 individuals have received at least one dose and 21,003 individuals have completed the vaccine series.

In La Crosse County, a total of 145,345 vaccine doses have been administered. A total of 75,785 residents have received at least one dose while 72,775 individuals have completed the series.

A Moderna COVID-19 Booster Clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  on Saturday, Dec. 11, at Organic Valley, located at 509 Organic Drive in Cashton.

Booster doses are available to those aged 18 and over who have completed the original series of either Moderna or Pfizer at least six months prior or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine two months prior.

All COVID-19 shots are provided for free and no insurance is required. Those who would like their first or second dose of Moderna are also welcome to attend.
