Margaret (Peg) Janovick, June 11, 1940, Harlan, Iowa. Died October 17.
Peg’s priorities were God, family, and country - - with love included in each.
Peg was a reader; striving to learn each day. She had a hunger for things spiritual and uplifting stories about life and all of its challenges. She leaves shelves of her books.
Peg was a homemaker, raising five children. She used her body to demonstrate love to her family and community. She leaves four 4-H ID badges. She loved canning (One year, put up over a hundred quarts of tomatoes and tomato soup), baking, cooking and had many hobbies which included knitting, needlepoint and cross stitch; collecting all sorts of rocks; collecting and digging up old bottles. (While living in Colorado, she often packed a picnic lunch and took her three oldest children to an abandoned Leadville dump here they - carefully - exhumed many varieties of old bottles. She also took them to abandoned gravel pits and stream beds for rocks. She maintained the processes through their school years into Iowa.) She took time with her grandchildren - in her home - to demonstrate her interests and to guide them in living their lives. You would not here her quote Matthew 5:16; she lived it.
Peg loved to drive and made unaccompanied trips even to south Texas and Maryland to comfort / aid her child.
Peg enjoyed animals of all kinds; horses, dogs, cats, goats, ducks, geese, and wild birds. (She even liked raccoons until one killed a mother duck and newly hatched babies.) An article about her and her miniature horses appeared in the La Crosse Tribune.
Peg’s statement when moving into her Sparta home was, “My next move will be ‘feet first - out the door’.” Her hospice care honored that; allowed her to be surrounded by rooms with wood on walls, floor, and ceilings, 400 of her best bottles, 5 of her antique clocks, 100’s of books, and collections of figurines: birds, animals, conveyances, mom / child, toys, and household items. Peg is preceded in death by Harry and Alice McGee and only sister. Surviving loved ones include her husband Robert Janovick of 62 years in marriage, 1 son and 4 daughters, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren (held the last two). Cremation is her choice and a Celebration of Life will be later.
