SPARTA - Joyce Marie Mlsna, 89, of Sparta, died Saturday, November 19, 2022, at he home. She was born on June 10, 1933, to Harold and Evelyn (Seekamp) Steinhoff. She married Richard Mlsna on June 22, 1954.
Joyce worked for Sparta Brush until retiring in 1990. In the winter, they headed to Mesa, AZ, where she made many friends playing cards, quilting, and singing in coral. She went on to make many quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. During retirement, she also did several years of foster care. She loved children. Give her a baby and she lit up like a Christmas tree. She enjoyed gardening, watching her orioles and other birds that came to their home. She especially enjoyed watching the deer and turkeys. Give her a rock or dritwood and she would get creative with it. On the farm she found a camel rock and appropriately named her home Camelot.
Joyce is survived by Richard, her husband of 67 years; sons, Dean (Kathy) Mlsna, Donald (Georgiana) Mlsna, Douglas (Sue) Mlsna, Duane (JoAnn) Mlsna; daughters, Donna (Jerry) Hemmersbach and Delores (John) Dahlberg; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 18 step-great grandchildren. She is further survived by her siblings, Harold Jr. (Shelly) Steinhoff, Alice (Ray) Hatfield, Eugene (Kay) Steinhoff, Richard Steinhoff, Dickie (Lorraine) Steinhoff, Betty (Dale) Heilman, Delores Squire, Ole (Teddy) Steinhoff, Mary Jane Foster; sister-in-law, Mary Steinhoff; brothers-in-law Reford Raley, and William Von Ruden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Richard; daughter Diane; sisters, Janet Von Ruden (twin) and Sandra Raley; brother Donald Steinhoff; brothers-in-law Donald Squire, Richard Foster, Chuck Mlsna, Thomas Mlsna, Frank Mlsna, and Ira Mlsna; sisters-in-law Elma Hohn and Elma Hohn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with Father Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be at a later time in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Cashton, with David Mlsna, Daniel Mlsna, Joshua Milsna, and Richard Mlsna acting as Honorary Pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, Tuesday, November 22, 2022, with a rosary at 6:30 PM, at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, and at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
