SPARTA - Duane R. Erickson was born on April 14, 1933 in Melvina, WI to Ernest and Alice (Simonson) Erickson. He grew up in the Sparta area.
Duane was married to Shirley (Johnson) for over 61 years. He served in the US Marine Corp. He then went to work for the City of Sparta, Fort McCoy, and finally Erickson Sanitation. Duane loved working outside, especially mowing his yard and keeping up his garden. He enjoyed his time in Sparta, socializing with family and friends.
Duane passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at the Serenity House in Tomah at the age of 88 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents; six brothers, Robert, LeRoy, Donald, Richard, Larry, and Roger; two sisters, Shirley and Wanda.
Duane is survived by his two children, Patricia (Steve) Skeen and Michael (Jody) Erickson; three brothers, Weldon, David, and Eldrid; one sister, Barbara; and his grandson, Chad Skeen.
A graveside service will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sparta. Full military honors will be provided by VFW Post 2112 of Sparta.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta. The family requests masks be optional. Online condolences may be offered at www.schanhoferfh.com
