Downtown Thursday Nights

Posted

Downtown Thursday Nights, in Tomah, Wisconsin, was started in 2019, and brought it back in 2021. It is a concert series that runs for six weeks. Superior Avenue is shut down and nationally touring bands from all over the country are brought in to put on first-class shows. The music kicks off at six in the evening and runs for three hours. An added bonus: it is free to attend. There is also a kid zone, complete with free face painting, caricatures, balloon animals and bounce houses.

When concert crowds convene on Superior Avenue, attendance can range from about two thousand on a slow night, to about six thousand on the busiest night. The population of Tomah is only a bit over nine thousand, which indicates that the events are drawing in people from outside of the area. This is further evidenced by overnight stays, and even buses coming in for the final night.

Downtown Thursday Nights is a very family friendly event, where ages range from babies to seniors. There is also designated parking, for those with mobility issues. Extreme safety measure are taken for the event, to include being bookended by barricades. Heavy machinery is put in to prevent someone being able to drive through the event. There are food vendors, beer and soft beverages for sale from local businesses. For further information on the event, go to www.downtownthursdaynights.com.
