SPARTA - Clarice H. Button, 98, of Sparta passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Sparta. She was born on July 29, 1924 to Charles and Hazel (Dell) Posvic, in Black River Falls. She grew up on the family farm in Melrose, and graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1942.

   Clarice married the love of her life, Lyman L. Button, on January 6, 1945 at Melrose Methodist Church. Together, they had 3 children and built their home in Farmer’s Valley. She and Lyman were active members of the United Methodist Church in Sparta for many years. In addition to raising her children, and being a grandmother, Clarice worked as a telephone operator at Fort McCoy for 30 years, until her retirement.

   Clarice was an avid Brewer’s fan, and could call out their stats from memory. In her younger years she loved to hunt, fish, camp, garden, and travel with her husband. She also enjoyed crochet, playing Scrabble, reading, and jigsaw puzzles.  Her most treasured times were spent with her children and grandchildren.

   She is survived by her children, Ronald (Jeanne) Button, Gordon (Jeanne) Button, and Lynette DuBois, of Sparta; 5 granddaughters, Shari (Troy) Demet, Amy (Michael) Dewitt, Katie (Chris) Lanners, Tricia Nielsen, and Sarah (Ron Nerby) Button; and 8 great-grandchildren, Kathleen Roberts, Savannah (Jason) McCoy, Zoe (Alex) Meinhart, Lorelei (Dawn Cira) Lanners, Elyas Dewitt, Nadia Nielsen, Asher Nielsen, and Gavyn De Clute.

   She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel Posvic; her husband of 51 years, Lyman Button; sisters, Alice (Vic) Samb and Grace (Jerry) Hostrawser; brother, Lyle (Frankie) Posvic; and many other relatives and friends.

   A Memorial service will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Lanham-Schanhofer Funeral Home and Cremation, Sparta, with Chaplain Priscilla Hemmersbach officiating. Burial will be in Melrose Cemetery in Melrose. A luncheon will be held at American Legion Post 100 in Sparta, following the burial.

   A visitation will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Saturday, at the funeral home.
