Buffy has been making the rounds the past few weeks.

Buffy is the Tomah Fire Department's 1935 Buffalo fire truck. And Buffy has been spending time at countless Tomah businesses to help promote the upcoming TFD Sesquicentennial celebration Saturday at Recreation Park. Local businesses have sponsored Buffy for a day to support the daylong event that has long been in the planning stage, said Tomah Public Safety Director Tim Adler, who has handled the majority of driving Buffy to its business destination.

But at the Tomah City Council meeting last week Adler was quick to credit the extensive support received to pull the event together, from local businesses, all city departments and the Tomah Chamber of Commerce.

"There has been a lot of support to put this together," Adler said. "It's been more (work) than I thought it would be."

The focus is the 451 members of the TFD over 150 years, 96 whom Adler has served with during his involvement with the department.

Earlier Adler noted, "to the employers who have cooperated throughout the years by letting their employees have time off from work to fulfill their duties as firemen. To the families, without your support and understanding we could have never made this happen, the joy of serving the city of Tomah for the past 150 years."

Saturday starts with a fire truck parade at 11 a.m. on Superior Avenue in Tomah. The parade route will head south in the northbound lane.

Following the parade, the public is invited to Tomah’s Recreation Park for fire truck equipment show starting at 1 p.m. Also on site, free bounce houses, junior firefighter combat challenge course, smoke house, caricatures and much more from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Minnesota Fire Engine Club will be providing a colored/illuminated water show throughout the evening.

Bottom line, there will be plenty to do during the day.

Live music will play all afternoon at Rec Park starting with  Aaron Scott playing from 2 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Scott will be followed by Desperate Ottos playing from 4:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Headliner  Bon Journey, the original Bon Jovi/Journey tribute band, closes the day playing from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase by numerous non-profits, Adler said.
