Brookwood girls place third at Chileda Classic

Powered by top-10 performances from both senior Kimberlee Downing and junior Margarita Silva, the Brookwood girls’ cross country team thrived at their latest meet.

The Falcon girls placed third overall with 77 team points at the 2021 La Crosse Chileda Classic hosted by Onalaska Luther and held Monday, October 4 at Maple Grove Venues in West Salem.

Brookwood was just barely behind Chippewa Falls, who placed second with 75 points. Boscobel was a clear first in the girls’ team standings with only 28 points.

Downing came in seventh in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 21 minutes, 18.9 seconds. Silva was right behind her in eighth with a time of 21 minutes, 27.5 seconds. 

Brookwood sophomore Amelia Muellenberg (22:37.4) placed 19th, senior Lainey Teynor (22:40.1) was 21st and junior Katie Gruen (23:52.2) wound up in 33rd. Sophomore Alexis Lacy (23:55.1) and freshman Alice Wiedmeyer (25:53.8) also ran at the event for the Falcons.

For Cashton in the girls’ race, freshman Mateya Kaduc (21:32.1) took 11th, freshman Isabell Korn (22:38.1) was 20th, junior Chelsie Paulsen (24:03.0) came in 35th, sophomore Kate Gronemus (25:17.3) placed 48th and freshman Makayla Gooselaw (25:50.5) wound up in 52nd.

Freshman Aubrey Peterson (26:25.1), senior Paige Hoeft (27:34.7), sophomore Marayah Morrison (29:24.6) and freshman Kylie Harter (46:53.1) also competed for the Eagles, who accrued 144 points to finish in seventh in the team standings.

Top-three finishers in the girls’ race were Boscobel freshman Nora Jillson (19:47.2) in first, Chippewa Falls senior Haley Mason (20:01.5) in second and Arcadia junior Tegan Michalak (20:35.3) in third.

On the boys’ side, Brookwood junior Dylan Powell flourished to a fourth-place finish with a time of 17 minutes, 5.6 seconds. Finishing ahead of Powell was Chippewa Falls senior Lukas Wagner (16:22.1) in first, Arcadia senior Jose Monroy (16:33.6) in second and La Crosse Aquinas sophomore Jonathan Skemp (16:35.3) in third.

Elsewhere for the Falcons, freshman Caston Gosda (19:57.7) placed 37th, sophomore Wyatt Maurhoff (20:08.4) was 42nd, junior Jonathan Hock (20:20.2) took 48th and senior Paul Shock (31:36.7) wound up in 114th.

Cashton runners on the boys’ side included sophomore Dylan Kaduc (18:45.7) in 18th, sophomore Colton Lee (20:14.0) in 44th, freshman Sean Lukaszewski (21:28.3) in 71st, junior Jeremiah Woolhouse (21:54.2) in 82nd, freshman Luke Clements (21:56.5) in 83rd and sophomore Gabe Von Ruden (22:53.2) in 86th.

In the boys’ team standings, Brookwood finished in seventh with 185 points and Cashton was 10th at 236 points.

The Chippewa Falls boys took first overall with 52 points, narrowly edging out second-place Boscobel and its 54 points.
