Brookwood cross country teams take 2nd at Viroqua Invitational

Three Falcons runners finish inside top 10 at meet

At last week’s cross country meet in Viroqua, Brookwood runners were represented well among top-10 finishers.

In the girls’ race, senior Kimberlee Downing and junior Margarita Silva cracked the top 10 while junior Dylan Powell made it into the top 5 on the boys’ side at the Viroqua Invitational Thursday, September 2 at the Vernon County Fairgrounds in Viroqua.

Powell placed third overall in the boys’ race with a time of 17 minutes, 49.3 seconds. He finished four-tenths of a second behind Boscobel senior Ben Bohringer (17:48.9) for second. La Crosse Central junior Wesley Barnhart (17:38.1) came in first in the race.

Brookwood sophomore Wyatt Maurhoff (21:14.2) was 28th, freshman Caston Gosda (21:52.0) finished in 35th and senior Paul Shock (31:16.9) took 75th.

On the girls’ side, Downing posted a time of 21 minutes, 43.5 seconds to place seventh and Silva was right behind her in eighth with a time of 21 minutes, 51.8 seconds.

Sophomore Amelia Muellenberg (22:40.8) came in 14th, junior Katie Gruen (23:32.4) was 20th and senior Lainey Teynor (23:46.6) took 23rd. Sophomore Alexis Lacy (24:39.1) and eighth grader Alice Wiedmeyer (26:18.6) also ran for the Falcons.

The Brookwood girls took second in the team standings, behind only Boscobel, who also came in first in the boys’ team standings. The Boscobel girls won the meet with 21 points, while Brookwood scored 67 for second. Westby was third with 70 points. Boscobel also won the boys race with just 38 points, while the Falcons scored 64 for second. Viroqua tallied 75 points to take third.
