Brookwood boys take down Coulee Christian/Providence after falling to Hillsboro

Posted

A non-conference win over the weekend allowed the Brookwood boys’ basketball team to bring an end to a five-game losing skid.

Prior to that, however, the Hillsboro Tigers (13-9 overall, 8-5 Scenic Bluffs) got the better of the Falcons (6-17, 3-10) in a 59-41 win in conference play Thursday, February 17 in Hillsboro.

The Tigers held a narrow 21-17 halftime lead before outscoring Brookwood 38-24 in the second half. They also won the first meeting 67-41 back on January 14 in Ontario.

In last Thursday’s matchup, junior guard Noah Burmaster scored 15 points to lead Hillsboro and sophomore guard Isaiah Stokes added 14 points. For the Falcons, senior guard Austin Frye and sophomore guard Brady Hansen finished with 16 and 9 points, respectively.

The next night, Brookwood got back into the win column by downing Coulee Christian/Providence (7-10) 65-54 Friday, February 18 in West Salem.

The Falcons led 27-23 at halftime and then held a 38-31 advantage in the second half to wind up winning by 11 in the end.

Brookwood was bolstered by a trio of double-digit scorers: senior guard Franklin Wildes with 17 points, Frye with 16 points and Hansen with 14 points. Coulee Christian/Providence sophomore guard Zach Mertes led his team with 32 points.

The Falcons will close the regular season when they play the New Lisbon Rockets (6-16, 2-10) Monday, February 21 at 6 p.m. in New Lisbon.
