Book Tasting adds academia atmosphere

Posted

Lori Lazzari, teacher at Saint Pat’s School, located in Sparta, surprised her students when she turned her second and third grade classrooms into a StarBOOKs café. The event took place on Friday afternoon, October 14th. Lazzari got the idea from social media. “I saw the idea on social media and knew I had to share it with my second and third graders,” Lazzari stated. “I wanted to tie in my love of reading with my love for coffee. Combined with my love for teaching, it was a perfect fit. It was a fun way to engage the students and have them read different genres of books.”
A local Starbucks had donated the delicious treats and beverages, the rest of the effort fell on the shoulders of Lazzari, who created a cafe atmosphere for her students, to do a “Book Tasting.” The students were encouraged to choose a book that they wouldn’t normally choose and do a quick mini book review, while sipping on apple juice, or milk and enjoying a cake pop from the Starbucks chain.
The children were very engaged and it made for a wonderful afternoon. Most assuredly, it is memory that will stick in their long-term memory, for the students to recall with fondness, well into their adulthood.
The Monroe County Herald would like to thank Lori Lazzari for her contribution to this article.
