The Black River Falls girls’ hockey team was in action with games on back-to-back nights late last week, which they managed to split with one win and one loss.

The Tigers (2-5) kicked off their December slate on the road against the Viroqua Blackhawks (2-1), who they managed to beat in overtime 3-2 Thursday, December 2 at Viroqua Community Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Blackhawks seized a 2-0 lead in the second thanks to a power-play goal by Gabby Olson and an even-strength goal courtesy of Leonie Boettcher.

Hannah Lane got Black River Falls on the board with an unassisted goal to make it 2-1 Viroqua heading into the second intermission.

Avery Hagen would tally the equalizer with about three minutes remaining in regulation to force overtime, where Lexie Hagen — who assisted on the third-period goal — scored the game winner off an assist by Delainey Johnson.

The Tigers would next face the Lakeshore Lightning (2-2) at home Friday, December 3, where the hosts suffered a 2-0 shutout loss.

Lakeshore Lightning first scored midway through the first period on a Lauren McCormack goal that was assisted by Milana Commare. Then later scored late in the second period courtesy of a Cassidy Sullivan goal that was assisted by McCormack and Aalyiah Lathrop.

Black River Falls next welcomes in the Winona Winhawks (0-4) in the second game of the team’s current four-game homestand.

The Tigers and Winhawks will square off Tuesday, December 7 at 7 p.m. at Milt Lunda Memorial Arena.
