Barbara Ann (Pliner) Johnson, 73, passed away peacefully in her home on October 15, 2022 after a fourteen month battle with glioblastoma.

Barbara was born to Bernard and Martha Pliner on January 12, 1949. She grew up in Champion Valley near Hillsboro, WI. She attended Champion Valley School and later graduated from Hillsboro High School.

She was united in marriage to Tyrone Johnson on May 18, 1985 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro, WI. They were later blessed with their two children, Drew and Ashley. Barb worked alongside Tyrone on their dairy farm for over 30 years.

Barb was a devoted wife, mother, and friend, but perhaps her most cherished title was “Grandma”. You would often find Barb tending to her flowers and farm cats, traveling with her windows down and 60’s rock music blaring, rescuing vulnerable animals, singing in the Sacred Heart Church choir, seeking out and trying new recipes, and intricately painting ceramics. Her favorite thing to do, however, was to spoil her grandchildren; and as a self-proclaimed “stubborn Bohemian”, she would not be told to behave differently.

Barb was a friend to all who needed her. She ensured that all who entered her home felt welcomed, valued, and cared for. A woman of faith, Barb instilled a love of Christ in her children and grandchildren. She taught those around her to love big, to speak up when necessary, and to laugh at every chance you got. Her lessons, strength, and guidance will live on in all who loved her.

Barb is survived by her husband, Tyrone; children, Drew (Kristina) Johnson and Ashley (Zach) Hemmersbach; her beloved grandchildren, Brent, Owen, Levi, Sadie, Evan, Hannah, Jada, and Lincoln; siblings, Robert (Connie) Pliner, Mary Shiroma, and Larry (Kelly) Pliner. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, additional relatives, and many dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Monroe and Beverly Johnson, and her beloved dog, Kelly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, October 24, 2022, 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Cashton. Father Michael Klos will officiate. A private family burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Cashton. Family and friends are invited for visitation Sunday, October 23, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 12:45 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton, Wisconsin. Family and friends are also invited for visitation Monday at 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
