Bangor girls put finishing touches on perfect Scenic Bluffs campaign with win over Cashton

The Bangor Cardinals left no doubt this season as to who still runs the Scenic Bluffs Conference in girls’ basketball. After securing their eighth straight conference title, Bangor took it a step further and finished off a perfect 14-0 league campaign.

The Cardinals (22-2 overall, 14-0 Scenic Bluffs) wrapped up the regular season by completing a rivalry sweep with a 63-37 win over the Cashton Eagles (10-14, 7-7) Tuesday, February 15 in Cashton.

Bangor had previously notched a convincing 91-50 victory over the Eagles when they first met in Bangor back on January 13.

On Tuesday night, the Cardinals only led 24-21 at halftime before putting the throttle down in the second half, outscoring Cashton 39-16 the rest of the way.

Bangor had four players finish in double figures scoring in the win: senior guard Taylor Jacobson with 16 points, junior guard Nora Tucker with 14 points, junior guard Joeryn Freit with 11 points and senior forward Madeline Janisch with 10 points.

The Eagles were led by Braylee Hyatt with a game-high 17 points and senior guard Teagan Hundt with 7 points.

Both teams won’t be in action again until the start of the postseason, which gets underway Tuesday, February 22 with regional quarterfinals across the state.

The Cardinals, who remain pat at No. 2 in Division 5 in the latest WisSports.net coaches’ poll, are a No. 1 seed and will welcome in No. 16 seed Granton (0-18) for their opening round matchup.

In Division 4, Cashton was given a No. 11 seed and will travel to Cuba City to square off against No. 6 seed Cuba City (15-8) next Tuesday.
