Bangor boys see conference title-clinching opportunity axed with Wonewoc-Center game postponement

Cashton-New Lisbon game also put on hold due to winter travel conditions

Bangor’s shot at clinching their sixth consecutive Scenic Bluffs boys’ basketball championship will have to wait until next week.

The Cardinals’ scheduled home matchup with the Wonewoc-Center Wolves for Friday, February 11 was called off several hours before the planned tipoff due to travel concerns for Wonewoc-Center amidst potential inclement winter weather.

The game is tentatively postponed, but with no makeup date immediately announced. Bangor handily beat the Wolves 81-36 during their first meeting January 11 in Wonewoc.

The Cardinals, ranked No. 5 in Division 5 the latest WisSports.net coaches’ poll, sit at 17-3 overall and 11-0 in conference play this season. One more league win ensures them a share of yet another Scenic Bluffs title.

Unless the Wonewoc-Center game is rescheduled and played before then, Bangor will next get a shot to clinch the conference crown when it hosts Royall Thursday, February 17 at 7 p.m.

In their first meeting back on January 14 in Elroy, the Cardinals had to rally back from a double-digit deficit and escaped with a 51-45 victory.

The Cashton boys’ basketball team dealt with a similar fate Friday night. Their scheduled home game against the New Lisbon Rockets was postponed because New Lisbon’s bus service was unable to travel due to the conditions.

No makeup date for the Cashton-New Lisbon game was made immediately available.

The Eagles aren’t scheduled to play again until hitting the road to face Wonewoc-Center Thursday, February 17 at 7 p.m. in Wonewoc.
