After suffering a conference loss for the first time in six years, the Bangor boys’ basketball team got right back to their winning ways one night later — and clinched a share of yet another Scenic Bluffs championship to boot.
For six years, the Bangor Cardinals have ruled over Scenic Bluffs boys’ basketball with an iron grip. That all came to an end late last week against an opponent that has consistently been one of the Cardinals’ toughest matchups in conference play over the past several years: the Royall Panthers.
Bangor’s shot at clinching their sixth consecutive Scenic Bluffs boys’ basketball championship will have to wait until next week.
It’s been a hell of a long time since the Bangor Cardinals dropped a game in Scenic Bluffs play. Long enough, in fact, that they’ve built up the longest active conference winning streak in all of Wisconsin high school boys’ basketball.
Leading by four at the half against Onalaska Luther, Bangor was in prime position to tally a marquee victory early in this 2021-22 campaign. However, a stagnant second half sunk the Cardinals and stuck them with their first loss of the season.
